I don't keep up with them as far as when what models were made. Try www.simpletractors.com . Someone on there can give you more info I'm sure.
As far as your engine problem it sounds like the rectifier on the alternator is bad. The alternator is under the flywheel and the rectifier on a Kohler is on the shroud with 3 wires plugged into it. Check your voltage there with the engine running(should be around 13-13.5 volts). Try it again with your accessories turned on. It should not drop much if it is working right. If you have proper voltage at the engine it may be a wiring problem (fuse,wire,connection,amp gage,ect.). Just a few things to try. Good luck. Brett
