AC 410 Garden Tractor - 2009/05/16 00:45 Hi all: Just found this site and registered. I am Pastor of a small church in the Parry Sound area of Ontario. Fifteen years ago I bought an Allis Chalmers 410 Garden Tractor. It had been recoditioned by a dealer in St. Thomas, Ontario. Last year I rebuilt the 10 HP Motor.
That's the only money I've put into it since I purchased it but I have used it for a lot of hours. What impresses me about it is the all steel construction and the fact that it has a power take off!
It also has a very rugged four speed gear box which gives it fantastic pulling power. I can pull my 16 foot
fibreglass launch with it, or a trailer with a face cord of wood...no problem. Put it in low and it chugs up a sixty percent grade. I could walk faster, but it's more fun riding!
Anyway I believe it has reached antique status, and I plan to start showing it. I want to repaint and replace the logos and all the rest of the detail that goes with such a restoration job. I have not seen another one like this anywhere and I wonder how popular a model it was, when it was made etc.

Thanks

Re:AC 410 Garden Tractor - 2010/01/25 02:27 I just joined this site myself or would have posted sooner. What you have is a garden tractor made by Simplicity. I don't keep up with them as far as when what models were made. Try www.simpletractors.com . Someone on there can give you more info I'm sure.
As far as your engine problem it sounds like the rectifier on the alternator is bad. The alternator is under the flywheel and the rectifier on a Kohler is on the shroud with 3 wires plugged into it. Check your voltage there with the engine running(should be around 13-13.5 volts). Try it again with your accessories turned on. It should not drop much if it is working right. If you have proper voltage at the engine it may be a wiring problem (fuse, wire, connection, amp gage,ect.). Just a few things to try. Good luck. Brett
