Tractor Trip to Two Rivers, WI PDF Print E-mail
Untitled 1

Back several years ago in 1999 when I was just starting to collect AC Tractors, I got a tip from Larry Swenson about a collector in Wisconsin that was selling some of his collection.  I contacted him and made a deal on a Model A 1929 20-35 and a G with a Front End Loader.  I had just bought a new 30-foot Corn-Pro Trailer and  Chevy Ton Dually.  A few days before making the trip, I found out the guy also had an IB that I wanted.  The problem I had was I could only get 3 tractors on the trailer.  After some sweet talking, I finally talked my wife Debi into helping.  I knew a G would fit in a full size PU so we put my PU on the trailer and headed for Wisconsin.  Got there, loaded the A, E and IB on the trailers and G in the PU.  We left there early in the afternoon and headed south to Paris, IL.  Debi was tailgating me all the way from Two Rivers, WI to South of Chicago.  We were on I-57 and it was starting to get dark.  I looked in my rearview and no headlights, I slowed down and all the cars behind me went around, no sign of Debi.  We both had cell phones so I pulled over and tried to call her with no luck.  I finally got hold of a live operator on the cell phone and she told me I would have to put the call on a credit card and would only take mastercard.  I had never heard of anything like this before or after.  Anyway, got hold of Debi, she had blown a front tire on the PU 8-10 miles back.  I turned my rig around and went back, she was having a panic attack and said she thought I was going to leave her there.  I put the spare tire on and once again she was on my tail all the way home.

Some time later, a friend of mine did not help matters when he told her "you did not have to worry about Dale leaving you there .... you had one of his tractors!"
